David Batchelor.

I looked into David Batchelor and how he turns print into something more than just a print. His large paintings have such a strong sense of tension between the colour and the ‘plinth’. The use of the black to anchor the image is so effective, i was also very interested in how these are 3 dimensional (albeit only just) with the thickness of the paint poured onto the surface. Which leads me to his second work, even though these blocks of colours on wheels aren’t prints, i associate them with printmaking. There’s something about this use of block colour that for me harks to a print. I love how in that sense he has pushed ‘printmaking’ into a 3D form and i want to see how i can elevate my work into this plane.
